Come on, you have to admit the idea of a plain old light bulb destroying the earth is pretty ridiculous, don't you? The fact is only certain types of very powerful light bulbs, such as those high pressure sodium bulbs they use on street lights can destroy the world. And, even then it would require that lightning hit the pole *and* the surge protector in the base to malfunction. Obviously, this has never happened or we wouldn't be here, so don't worry about it.

If the atoms in an object such as a light bulb were able to be completely broken down and the energy released, it would be a huge release of energy. This is the basically the theory behind the atomic bomb. However, actually splitting the atoms in a light bulb and getting all of the energy released is not going to happen any time soon, thank goodness.

Well with a broad generalization of chaos theory you can claim that anything can bring the world to an end, sort of. This seems silly however and relatively unrelated to any decent disscusion

Thankfully the laws of statistical mechanics invalidates any such claim.

Please don't tell anyone how to destroy the earth. There are a few who will do it if they knew how. (Light Bulbs are easy to get)
Thanks,
