John a pathological liar is someone who believes their own lies or at least while they are telling them.

A deliberate liar knows he is lying. A pathological liar may not. So perhaps its more likely that the person is a deliberate liar. But regardless, neither means they always lie. They might be telling the truth this time.

No one can lie or tell the truth 100% of the time. Therefor, you would have to judge their statement on their character and your gut feeling. Only this person will ever know the truth.

Probably, because to own up to such a thing probably indicates they have other pathological traits too.

If they said they were and they were it would be the truth...
