I certainly have a number of examples of how socio-pathic personalities effected an organization!! Those people create faster change in organizations. This particular individual worked on a youthcare level of an adolescent young women's residential treatment facility. Youth Care staff worked all three shifts and the evening and nights shifts are the most vulnerable to socio-paths. As a therapist, I found that a number of young women were devastated that "Phil" wouldn't talk to them anymore. I started watching and saw that he spent a lot of time with some y.women, while ignoring others and ignoring his regular duties. I started working overtime into the evening shift. Finally one staff member came to me crying and devastated that "Phil" had really paid her a lot of attention and then suddenly shunned her!! He had been allowed by the administration to live in the empty group home on campus and the woman let me know that he'd been having drug parties with the staff members down there. Previously, I had complained to my supervisor that I was sure he was a destructive personality, but he had taken pains to cultivate the supervision-level personnel and they totally discounted my evaluation! I finally went straight to the top directors and told them of the drug parties, etc. It was all kept very quiet--but "Phil" was very quickly gone--no DOUBT, to be hired by another childrens' facility!!!!! No organization wants to let an inquiring new organization know the REAL destructive bhv of the individual due to fear of being sued!! TRAGIC! This probably was not what you wanted--but it sure struck a nerve for me!! Positive workers, I think, can do little to effect the overall management's beliefs and direction! I suppose a very charismatic, personable, bright, and good talker might be able to start winning over the mgment level. But it would take a GREAT deal of skill, effort and maneuvering to do it!! Not my cup of tea.
