The FU and the spear are in the script. The wrestlers do them when the writers have decided, and if they decided Cena and Lashley would have no FUs or spears, but would engage in a double figure-4 leglock, that is what they would do. That may be a real stretch, because neither of the uses that hold, but the writers decide the holds, the bookers decide the matches. the job of the wrestlers is to sell the moves as scripted, and, of course, to absorb the physical punishment.
