Are you afraid your daughter might grow up to be an adulteress someday if you name her Hester?! I mean, come on! It's just a name from a book! I don't see anything WRONG with it! Besides, you who say you HATE the name Hester because of The Scarlet Letter may be living double standards! Crap! Look at what Jesus said! "He who has no sin cast the first stone!" "Judge not that you be not judged!"

I like the name Hester. Who cares what other people think? It is your child and you should like it's name. God Bless!

It's not a horrible name, just not my style. I feel like it's rather harsh sounding, and rhyming with pester doesn't help.

I know a few people who really like this name, not everyone hates it. I don't know how bad the teasing would be. Based on my high school experience, the kids that do the most teasing are the ones who didn't read the books for English Lit. anyways lol :)

Just to address something Poppy said- You'll see Hester on an adorable little girl as soon as someone uses it. And I promise it will fit her, because names don't make people, people make names. So once someone uses Hester or Margaret or Harriet and you see it on a sweet little thing, you'll understand that it isn't only an old lady name.

And where the heck did you pull Margaret and Harriet from?! Those are classics that are totally still being used today, especially in bigger metropolitan areas of Europe (England, for instance). Classy and old fashioned, which I imagine Hester could be if people had the guts to begin using it.

Hester!?

Well, I personally don't like it because it's an old fart of a name, no offense. Tell me when you have seen an adorable, tiny little girl named HESTER. It just doesn't work unless you're 50 or older, I'm sorry.

Your daughter is going to be living with that as a name, not you. She's the one going to be teased and bugged, not you. So choose a nice, 'in' name, not Hester or Margaret or Harriet or something old fashioned.

And maybe she might be popular, not a book worm like the name suggests, but she's the one being stuck with a name until she can legally change it when she's 18.

But if you REALLY love it, go for it.

I would not name my child Hester, because, I would be afriad in JR, and some High School (between the two I went to 7), my child would be teaste

Children do not change
They seem to get mean in JR high, and before college grow out of it

That is why I would not name my child Hester

I would not be afriad of her becoming adulteress, that is silly

If you love the name, then name her that
I would use a middle as a middle name
If you think I am wrong, that's okay

The name Hester is very old fashioned and I happen to know a lady named Hester who is not very attractive or lady like. You have to realize that your child may not grow up happy with this name and could be a target for constant ridicule! Please rethink this.

for some reason when I say the name Hester it makes me think of the movie " The Texas Chain Saw Massacre", not because the movie has anything to do with the name but because it sounds like a name for a psychotic hill billy. Sorry, I wish I liked it so you wouldn't be alone in this one.

Hester sounds more of guy's name and the child would be teased for sure. If you love the name so much you can change your name to it.
