multiply 4.7 pounds times $ 3.80

4.7 x 3.80 = 17.86

Subtract 17.86 from 20.00

20.00 - 17.86 = 2.14

Alonzo will recieve $ 2.14

translation tip:
"at $3.80 a pound" means
cost (of 1 pound) = $3.80

Basic formula:
Cost of N pounds = N * (cost of 1 pound)

cost of (4.7) pounds
= (4.7) * (cost of 1 pound)
= 4.7 * ($3.80)
= $17.86

Change = (money given to clerk) - (cost of 4.7 pounds)
= ($20) - ($17.86)
= $2.14
