In the sense that some children will threaten to turn in their own parents and maybe lie about how severe the punishment is, I would say "yes". Parents who love their children and want them to be upstanding, law abiding citizens one day, and who don't go "over the line" in punishment, should be able to discipline their children when they see fit and the way they see fit.

Definitely! In this PC day and age, "everyone" who thinks he or she knows best, claims that corporeal punishment is "violence" against a child and begets violence committed against others by that same child when he or she is at school or becomes an adult. Those of us raised by the Biblical admonishment that, "He who spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is careful to discipline him."Proverbs 13:24(NIV) or who were corrected by the "board of education" applied to the "seat of knowledge", are statistically much less likely to commit acts of violence against others than those who are raised in a laissez-faire manner in homes lacking proper discipline (and often a father or other authoritative male person)!

Yes. I remember getting threatened in public with a spanking for whatever bad behaviour at the time. No one thought anything of it. (This was in the 70s.) Now, I don't threaten spankings in English; I do it in a different language so that all the watch dogs and whistle blowers won't get any fodder for their fires.

OH HELL YEAH!!! There have been times when my kids have been acting up...and I should have spanked themor soemthing. But we were out in public. The last thing I want is DHS to come knocking on my door cause I spanked them. As long as there is no bruising or broken bones or blood, then what we do in our own house should not matter to anyone else.

Yeah... There's nothing to set the limits like a good old beating with a belt for the kids, not the little girls though. Only when necessary.

nothing should influence how you raise your kids, they should be raised on your own interpretation of what is right/acceptable under applicable basic morales. I have spanked my kids when i felt they needed it but i know parent who have never spanked and the kids turned our perfect....so no one is right, and the ultimate result is not from how much punishment you lay on your children, its the amount of praise you give them that will make them better children/people.

Yes. Some children do fine with time-out and some respond well to spanking. I say as long as there is not abuse there, then stay out of it.

Absolutely. No one is going to tell me how to discipline my children though. We have raised respectful, smart, well mannered children, and believe me, they've had some butt whoopings from time to time.
