Okay, so I did it once before and I think no-one was bothered. I think girls don't care, but guys might try and thump me one. But it's my birthday this weekend, I have had a terrible June, so glad to get through it, and just wanna buy something to cheer me up!! Besides if you don't try, you don't know how they really look...

Oh well, I won't get the chance now! Unfortunately my wife got ill and I had to take her to hospital - of course i have to prioritise and look after her, I just hope I can get one more chance to cross dress one day...otherwise I'll go crazy! My birthday was never gonna be that straughtforward...but I just hope my wife gets well! Thanks for all your answers!

i think you're safe from thumpage in a women's-only shoe store. maybe bring along a friend who can alert the manager if things look dangerous.
but you have to try on shoes!! how else will you know how they fit?? put on the shoes and strut around like you OWN the place :] :] it's your day!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

I remember being a shoe shop assistant and being really shocked when a man asked to try on some stilettos - but then I was only 16 at the time - bless! Nowadays I wouldn't bat an eyelid but if you felt awkward in the shop or the shop assistant/other customers don't look like open, accepting people, why not say to them you need shoes for a fancy dress party/pantomime dame costume/rocky horror show etc etc and then you can try on whatever you like without worrying you'll get abuse. Shame you can't just try on whatever you like anywhere, anytime, but you know what people are like.

I would absolutely try for it. If a guy is going to "thump you" or ask what you're doing trying women's shoes ask,"what are you doing in the ladies shoe section yourself?" My friend who is straight by the way, tried on a skirt and tube top in a store once. We took pictures... Anyhow, the point is, the woman who showed him the dressing room acted like it happens all the time. he looked pretty.. If you want to buy shoes, and someone at the store doesn't want to help you, you don't have to give them your money. go shopping with a friend. It's funner.

My husband had to spend 3 months working for his Firm, in Australia.
He decided to bring me back some kangaroo skin slippers - went into a womens' shoe shop and asked to try some on because we take the same size 8.
He said he quite enjoyed the experience because he could see Aussie guys eyeing him suspiciously through the window and the sales staff couldn't stop giggling!
So get out there and lighten someone's day!
Happy birthday!

It is a little risky, but you shouldn't let that stop you! Strut your stuff, honey!
If you are worried, than go with a few friends. They will not only serve as a buffer for any guys who might want to thump you, but they can also serve as fashion advisers! It's easier to find the perfect pair with more than one pair of eyes scanning the shelves!

I love trying on girly shoes especially when I'm wearing sheer black tights under my jeans. I like trying boots on too, I roll my jeans up to my knees so that my tights are well visible. I'm sure a lot of the girl assistant like this as well, they always seem to smile when they see me trying shoes on and it's so cool when they come and talk to me. I had one assistant a couple of years ago ask me was I wearing stockings or tights and when I told her they were in fact tights she took off her shoe and said they looked the same as hers and held her foot against mine, the feeling of our tights touching was just so good.
So put some tights on and go and enjoy yourself. I'd love to come with you!

I'd say go to a top shoe shop to get least weird looks, Oxford Street would be cool if you live near there.
