I live in Fort Lauderdale, and know both Miami and LA (a little).
One thing is if you really want cutting edge culture at the speed of New York, go for LA.
In Miami you can swim in pretty blue water all year, and it would ultimately be cheaper to live in a nice area.
It's flat, traffic is bad because drivers are so bad, and the summers are very hot and humid. It can be hot from May to November, (very humid from June to late October, and warm or springlike from Dec. to April.
I also think as far as the Hispanic culture and influence goes,
it seems to me that in LA they're a big part of the city, but don't control it, whereas in Miami, English is the second language, and Spanish is very important for getting jobs.
Calif. would surely have more variety of things to do and nearby excursions. You've got mountains, deserts, forests, beaches, cities, ski slopes, etc. not far away.
Miami has the Keys, Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood and Palm Beach nearby, or the Everglades swamp.
Definitely less variety, but I like it here because of the swimming in the ocean. LA's water is never warm.
And LA seems much busier and competitive, less laid back, and its more of a city and less of a resort, so you'll see a more transient population and tourists in miami, esp. in winter.

L.A. would be a better place to live by far. One main reason is the hurricanes that Miami is suspect to. Granted L.A. has earthquakes, but I'd rather be in an earthquake than a hurricane. Another reason is the cultural diversity that L.A. brings. Besides that, all the attractions and the basic weather remains similar.

In my opinion L.A. ... its very humid in miami and I don't like the humidity very much plus don't they have aligators there and hurricanes... yes I know L.A. has earthquakes but I would take that over a hurricane, plus I'm a city girl and the only thing I don't like about L.A. is the smog and traffic. But in the end its your choice, good luck!!

well you have to ask yourself this...do i have a family and am i impatient? if you said yes to either one of those then you should deffinatly go with miami. los angeles is very crowded and sometimes dangerous with the crime. miami is better then los angeles and i know this because i have been to both of them. also the traffic in l.a. is alot worse then miami. also if you like sprot teams then you have the miami dolphins and miami heat, in l.a. all you have is the lakers. also a big advantage of living in florida is that you are closer to disney. i would move to miami because it seems and is more fun.

LA Because in summer Miami's combination of heat and humidity is beyond disgusting.SOFLA is a humid place full of mold and mildew and more insects than you want to know about.
Plus LAX is always a cheap airport to connect to America and the rest of the world from.

That's like picking between the left armpit or the right armpit of America. Stay away from both!
