I depends on how you define "young". Some live at home because they may be attending college. Others are plain lazy and can't fend for themselves. Yet others live with their parents because it is part of their culture. Some hispanics do this quite often. Usually it is the elderly parents that live with their adult children who can't find it in their heart to send them to a nursing home.

I think most stay at home with their parents or move back home after school because it's so expensive to live on your own now. Especially if you are just getting started on a new job, etc. I think it's fine to do for a while until you save enough money to be on your own, but those who stay and stay and stay just don't want to leave the comforts and perks of home.

I think the problem is that parents are giving their children too much these days without asking anything in return. If they need money, they just give it to them instead of having them do chores as younger children or getting a job as a teenager. If they have a problem at school, parents are too willing to solve it for them instead of having them attempt a resolution of their own (speaking of teenagers, not younger kids). Parents have made it so easy for their kids that they know nothing of responsibility and therefore they aren't ready to go out own their own. They've become so lazy. I remember graduating high school and I couldn't wait to make my way in the world. But kids aren't like that today. It's called tough love, and no one wants to deal with it. They're too busy trying to be their kids best friend instead of teaching them how to become productive adults in society.

Lots of reasons. Few jobs right out of college pay enough to sustain rent, etc. Living at home allows young adults to get on their feet again and save some money and find a decent job before going out on their own.

Why not? YOu think it is normal to have your own place so you can party or move in with some guys is normal?
I'd rather my kid live in the house, pay nominal rent (which I save for her and give it back as downpayment to her future house), work an honest job, and if old enough date respectfully. Bums and guys with funny intentions are turned off and that's fine with me.

Its expensive to live on your own. If you get a job and live with your parents you can save thousands of dollars. Plus some kids have rich parents with nice houses>

Because their parents allow them to stay instead of making them stand on their own feet.

I live with my mom because I can't afford a place of my own. I'm in school full-time, so I can't have a full-time job.

Me, and my 27year old son, are more like room mates than we are father and son. We both respect each other, and give each other our space. He lives here because he has not found the woman he is looking for, and also, finances. I enjoy our arrangement....so does he!
