My dad grows fruit and veg in his garden and the neighbours cat keeps doing its business all over the place. Has anyone any ideas how he can stop it.

I use a supersoaker water gun bought from Argos it shoots water about 25ft i always try to get the cat from behind, it works best when the cat has its tail in the air. When you get the cat it always looks round with a morn-full look on its face. After the second time they don't come back.

Good shooting

Plenty of good ideas here, but I think things like orange peel would become a chore for you very quickly! Whatever happens, don't harm the cat(s). I think it was Karen H who said something about planning to catch a cat that comes into her garden and take it to animal rescue? Well that's just horrible- not only for the cat but the owner. I sincerely hope you were joking. How bad would you feel if YOUR pet suddenly disappeared and / or was put down (another word would be killed, no?) at an Animal Rescue home if it weren't claimed or re-homed? In this case (the original poster's) I can see why they wouldn't want other cats coming into their garden, but otherwise I don't see what the problem is. Cats are very clean animals and usually very placid. Having one wander around your garden a little bit is hardly going to kill you is it? Next you'll be putting glue on the trees (ala Roald Dahl's 'The Twits') to stop those awful birds landing in your garden...

Hi
On the assumption you do not wish to hurt the offending cat there is a device which is an ultrasonic unit which sends out a high pitch sound which is very unpleasant to a cat these work very well.
You can get one from Maplins or just look on the Internet/EBay
Regards
John

There is nothing so fun for me as letting my border collie mix dog, Paisley, out the patio door when there is a cat approaching my garden, he takes off like a shot, and the cat is so scared he practically runs out of his skin...LOL Therefore the cats do not return, unless they are very stupid cats...they never know when Paisley might get them. :-) It also keeps the cats from coming round and killing the songbirds at my birdfeeders. I love my dog. Everyone should have a Paisley.

Plants from the Lily family are highly toxic and often lethal to cats. Get some cat food and mix in some shredded Tiger Lily leaves and leave for the offending moggy to eat, the cat won't come back again.

I have two dogs which chase cats, there's a sonic cat scarer, yet I'm still plagued by the little devils. If you do find the ultimate deterrent I'd be interested to know what it is!

A bloody big shot gun i hate cats, there is a gadget you can get in the garden centre that sends out sounds that only the cats can hear , my mum has one and it works great for her.

get a rounded top fence to put round the veg, cats cant judge their distances to climb over, it confuses them so wont get into the veg n ruin anyfing. you can also get sprays that cats dont like so they will stay away from the vegtables, we use it 2 stop our cat from getting into my bro's pram or cot
