I have a week to learn something impressive for a review. I'm willing to put as much time in as I have, but I understand there are some things just out of my league. If anyone knows of a solo that could be picked up in a week that would make a good impression, let me know. Much appreciated.

I don't know what your real level is. Anyone can learn a solo in one week, but a beginner is going to butcher it while a pro is gonna go through it flawlessly. Here are some suggestions for different levels; listen to the song if you're not sure...
* Ram Jam - Black Betty; this songs rocks and the solo is pretty easy!
* Anything (pretty much) from Kirk Hammett (MetallicA): Nothing else matters (easy), One or Master of Puppets (medium), No Remorse (intro riff+solo is pretty cool)
* Anything by Slash (Guns N Roses): Sweet Child O Mine for example.
* Anything by Ozzy's guitar heroes: Crazy Train, Mr Crowley, Bark at the moon, ...
* Anything from 1980's Iron Maiden: Hallowed be thy name, Trooper, Aces high, 2 minutes to midnight, Phantom of the opera (I love this last one)... just the main riff can be a challenge sometimes!

hey joe - jimi hendrix
don't cry - gnr (slash)
both are really easy and sound VERY nice. Amazing, short and sweet solos.
If you can do something more complex then hows about the beat it solo by eddie van halen. Or if you are doing a solo without any backing then maybe his eruption solo. It's easier than you'd think and people seem to love it for some reason. His "you really got me" solo is even easier and sounds better (imo).

Try some of Ralph Santolla's solos from Deicide's "The Stench of Redemption." I suggest The Stench of Redemption, Desecration, Crucified For the Innocence, The beginning part of Walk With the Devil In Dreams You Behold, and Homage For Satan.

If you want to try something a little less obvious, try "I Need You Tonight" by ZZ Top off their Eliminator record, its a blues scale but it has some nice modular playing so its easy enough to learn in a week but also very interesting.
There are clips of it being performed on youtube.

Start out with Stairway to Heaven. It's a very easy solo to play, and its a great song.

Theres a video on youtube (or myspace) with some kid playing part of Pachabels Canon in D. You might be able to find a part of that to work on. Its awesome. As a matter of fact, anytime someone takes a recognizable peice of classical music and rocks it on the guitar.....kicks ***.

Or you can do Eruption by Eddie Van Halen....

Stay classy and learn Stairway to heaven's.

A lot of Stevie Ray Vaughn's Blues riffs are not only impressive but also relatively easy to learn as well.
