If you want to address the problem cheaply. Vick Vapor Rub applied to the affected area three times a day for 3 months will do the job. Please don't start screaming I am crazy. It was in the New England Journal of Medicine.
Also, applying duck tape to warts for an extended period of time works too.

Toe nail fungus needs to be treated with a long course of an oral antifungal (a pill). A doctor might also have to cut away some of the damaged nail depending on how bad the infection is. In time, the damaged nail will grow out and new nail growth should be clear if the antifungal is working. Older drugs include ketoconazole, itraconazole, and terbinafine. Topical agents (creams and oils) may not really cure fungal nail infections because the drug has to get into the nail bed --the deep part of the nail where it grows out. Creams etc. may help fungal skin infections, though.

If you're talking about TOE NAILS...cut them as low as you can. 2 - 3 times a day apply VICKS VAPOR RUB and put your sock on. This will kill the fungus under the nail. It may take a couple of weeks but it works! After that, apply Vicks once a week.
NO, this is NOT an old wives' tale. Do a google search on VICKS AND FUNGUS before you decide that is the way you want to go.

lamisil pills worked great for me. keep in mind that it take months to see results because it takes time for your nails to grow out. ask your doc. he/she will do a bloodtest on you first to make sure your liver is ok. lamisil is very hard on your liver. you cant have alcohol while on the meds, but its worth it.
