I can not thank you enough for all the varied responses and some harsh opinions. Apparently I am a 21 day cycle not 28, & from what I can tell, I did in fact start my period July 2nd, & seems to be a full normal crampy period. The last date of my previous months period was June 9 & the sexual encounter was June 15. I am so grateful but have another question. I am multichemical sensitive. I can not handle and never could use spermicides, sponges, inserts all gave me reactions. I can handle plain no lube condoms. My man shrinks in them, which I think is pshychological, not physical. He had been celibate many years as I was the last 13 or so by choice. I am in a dilemma because I am scared & absolutely will not entertain IUD or any inserted BC, I am just against it. I feel doomed. He is willing to wait until we get married to have sex, but even after married, I can't go around at 48 popping out babies because we don't know which BC method best for me. I brought up vasectomy. No go. Help.

What an awesome guy....he is willing to wait until you are married until you have any more sex..... wow!!!! Go for it!

As far as Birth Control when you do get married... the best methods are Natural Family Planning Methods. I.U.Ds work by keeping the uterus in a state of contractions...not strong enough for you to feel...but strong enough to knock any newly conceived child out of the nest (implanted in the lining of the womb) Plus, the little wire that hangs down, so that you can check to make sure it hasn't been "swallowed up" into your womb and then requiring surgical removal.... that wire traps bacteria from your urine etc. which can then travel up into your cervix and womb and cause a nasty infection.

Anything that is artificial in your body...will cause an artificial response by your body. Your body will try to reject it.. and that can cause problems for you.

There are about five or six different models of N.F.P You can google it in.... There are cycle beads that are promoted by Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. NaProTechnology which is promoted by Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska and Sympto-Thermo Method promoted by the Couple to Couple League and Billings Method promoted by WOOMB and also the Marquette Mode which uses a fertility monitor and is also promoted by Marquette University. Google any of these in and go for it...99% effective for most.... and can be used to avoid or achieve a pregnancy and also can be used as a Health Maintenance for women. Many of those who use these methods also know how to use them to choose the gender of the child they wish to conceive...

P.S. at 47yrs.old you are already past your "peak" which occurs around age 33yrs.old. That means that your fertility is greatly diminished and you are pre or peri-menopausal. Won't be long and pregnancy won't be a problem

I would not do tubal ligation either
since you are getting to the age where you will probably soon go throw menapause, you should follow your cycle closely and if it will continue to be every 21 days and not 28
if after 3 cycle you coninue to 21 days that mean you have regular cycle of 21 days
so you can use natural b/c
so go to babyhope.com and you will see info on ovulation
with that you will know the days to have sex or not
Good luck

I would suggest that you start keeping a menstrual diary to track your periods. Maybe even taking the basal temperature readings like infertile couples do to predict ovulation.

In addition I would suggest that he gets comfortable with using condoms.

Finally, you have to realize that sex is not strictly limited to penetrative contact with the reproductive organs. You both may give each other wonderful pleasure with non penetrative methods.

So use your imaginations to expand your intimate horizons.

Best Wishes

You need to get some education in your ovulatory patterns and simply practice periodic abstinence. Try the Creighton Model -- they seem to have better luck catering to women with situations like pending menopause.

Have you checked into the patch? I am not sure if it is even an option anymore, but about 6 years ago I used it and liked it. It was hassle free and I had no side affects.

"I brought up vasectomy. No go."

Given that you're "just against" some things, hard to argue with him, I suppose. Have you considered tubal ligation?

Which would be silly at 48, I think, so:
