yes. fish eat until the food is gone. they dont know when to stop eating. its their instinct. in the wild, animals dont know when they'll be able to eat again, so they always eat as much as they can.
it could also be from ammonia poisioning. even though they're feeders, they still need to be taken care of. with so many messy fish, its very likely there is a massive amount of ammonia in their tank. change the water, 50% every 2 days.

50? Even as feeders, they are going to die fast in a small tank. They were in poor health when you bought them. Now your turtle has been exposed to their ailments.
I kept red ear slider turtles from 1970 until about 2 years ago. Mike and Ike were >2" babies back in 1970 (before >4" were banded from sale). In 2005, they were 35 years old, and finally passed away. They were HUGE, about 8" long and 5" wide. They were crammed into a 40 gallon breeder, 36x18x17" and I was planning on getting them another tank, a 75 gallon (48x19x22"). They started in a 10, then were in a 20 long, then this 40 breeder.
They NEVER ate goldfish! They survived on Tetra and Wardley pellets and vegetables, mainly collards and some commercially bought earthworms. Mine lived 35 years. Must have been doing something right!

Yes they can and will die due to overfeeding.
It is good to give them just a bit of food, say a pinch of fish flakes (thats what I use for my goldfish Kemo). You see, fish eat everything their given. And if you feed them a lot, they'll eat all of it. Not a good idea. Trust me.
Hope this has helped you!

Yes they can. Goldies are not the smartest fish {in the sea!}. They will eat until the food is gone - long past the point of them being full. Try feeding them a little less next time.

Yes they can, but if you have them in a small tank, most likely they are too crowded. The rule of thumb is one gallon to each fish. So if you bought 50, you'd need a 50 gallon tank for the fish to be healthy.
