Can my American wife work in Europe?

I am a UK citizen resident in the USA with an American wife. I am going on an assignment to Germany. Will my wife be allowed to work in Germany and where do I find this information?

Contact the German embassy, on-line or by telephone call, she will need to apply for a work permit.
Maybe that is easy as you are European, but I am not sure.
