What are some good World War II related novel? I want a novel with some interesting history as well as a pure nonfiction.

For a novel I'd suggest Suite Francaise by Irene Nemirovsky who was writing in Paris just before and during the German invasion. It's 2 stories, the first about a group fleeing Paris and the other about how a village coexists with the Germans.
Most of Amy Tan's books have sections that take place during the Japanese occupation of China.
I read more nonfiction so I'd recommend:
FlyBoys by James Bradley about American POWs of the Japanese.
The Amber Room by Catherine Scott Clark and Adriene Levy, Peter the Great had a room in a palace the was panelled in amber which "disappeared" after WW2. The Russians insisted the Germans had taken it and nothing of it was found among looted treasures the Germans had.
Night by Elie Wiesel
Eva's Story by Eva Schloss
Pretty much anything Stephan Ambrose has written.
Wolves at the Door by Pearson about an American amputee who was refused by the OSS and recruited by the British to spy in France.

I have yet to read his book (and believe me, I want to get it fairly soon cause I really enjoy his books), but maybe you should try Jeff Shaara's "The Rising Tide." It's supposed to be the first book in a WWII trilogy he's doing. Also, see if you can't get your hands on Stephen Coonts "Victory." It's really a collection of short stories by Coonts and other authors that are all set during the war. I'm particulary fond of the "Victory" short story "V5" by David Hagberg, it's all about a Allied mission to destroy German rockets that could have reached the US.

As for non-fiction, try seeing if you can't find a copy of "The Big E" by Commander Edward P. Stafford, U.S.N. It's about the WWII career of CV-6 USS Enterprise, the only Yorktown-class carrier to be in service throughout the entire war (Yorktown and Hornet were both sunk in '42)

Get the book, "The Longest Day ", by Cornelius Ryan.... published in 1959, telling the story of D-Day, the first day of the World War II invasion of Normandy. It was also made into a hit movie with the same name. It's based entirely on true historical fact from the Allied point of view as well as the German point of view.

I googled up 'world war two novels' and found a site that has an annotated bibliography of novels set in WW2. And in regard to the response about Anne Frank, yes, that was WW2, but it wasn't a novel. Novels are fiction and Anne Frank's story, unfortunately, was autobiography.

Along with another person on here, I would highly recomend

Night by Elie Wiesel.

He's an awesome author, because he has infact been through WWII, he survived the horrid deathcamps, and along with an amazingly shocking, but intregueing (sp) novel, its an autobiography, of his what seemed long times in the concentration camps.

stephen ambrose has written many novels on WW2, mostly about the war in europe, that go into great historical knowledge paired with pretty dramatic personal accounts.

the book flags of our fathers is supposed to be really heart wrenching and captivating.. but most subjects on WW2 are anyway so.
