Oil leaked from the rearview mirror on my Jag XJ8 and spattered all over the console. The dealer tells me it can't be removed. Does anyone have suggestions?????

My mom is in the upholstery business, and whenever we've had a dirty leather chair in the shop, I've always seen her use Murphy's Oil Soap. Try a little of this very sparingly to see what kind of result you get. Murphy's has something in it that keeps leather from drying out when washed. Get the stuff that you can scoop out that looks like really thick honey, follow the instructions verbatim, and start small--I can't stress that enough.

When oil soaks in leather, it is absorbed. I'm not sure what to use, you might try a leather cleaner that you could find in a shoe repair shop.

When the seats on my Corvette looked worn and dirty, I cleaned them and used a spray leather dye from a shoe shop, and it worked perfect. The seats looked new with the exception of a few creases that had worn in.

So if you can't clean it, then respray it, using light coats. Sorry to hear about the Jag. good luck.
