My car battery has died twice on me within the last month. Both times that it occured my car hadn't been running in probably 3 or 4 days. When I go to start the car some of the inside lights will come on faded but the engine will not turn. Also, I've never had a new battery put in my car. My car is a 2000 Hyundai Tiburon.

Should I just buy a new battery or should I have it checked out first? How much do places charge to check out your battery?

Thanks for your help

thanks for all the advice guys, I took my car to an autoshop like autozone and they tested my battery and at first it was fine but as soon as they tried to use any power it would just completely die. So my battery was obviously dead, so I bought a new one for 75 bucks. I had no options in choice because not everyone carries batteries for hyundai, like walmart or Sam's. Anyways, I got the new batter in and they tested the alternator and the starter and said both were fine. So hopefully the reason the battery died was simply because it was old and used up, and not because there's a power drainage going on somewhere, or else I'll end up in the same spot. But thanks everyone for ur suggestions.

Bad battery won't hold a charge. YOu can have it checked at most auto parts places for free. Could always be a loose wire causing a discharge; but probably battery gone.

I've just solved this problem with a friend of mine. Your alternator will pull your battery down. The diodes in the alternator are bad. The alternator will charge, but once it sits it will pull it down.

If you unplugged you battery for 3 or 4 days and went to start you car it would start.

If you take your alternator of the car and have it tested and they had the new test equipment that checked the diodes then it would show bad.

Replace the alternator or find someone to replace the diodes inside it. The diodes are 3-5 dollars and available at most auto parts stores.

You should be able to go to an auto parts store and they will test your battery for free. They should be able to test it in the car. They hope your battery is bad and they can sell you a new one. Do you have anything plugged into the car like a cell phone charger? That could drain your battery after awhile. If your battery tests good you could have something else draining the battery.... take it in and have a mech. look at it if thats the case.

Your battery might not have been installed right. Check for a lose battery cable and corrosion on the post. Also that new battery they put in could be bad some times that happens. Also your alternator may be bad.

Have you battery checked but my boyfriend had the same problem. Something could be constantly running that you just don't know about (his problem was the auto-up on the window). Something little like that could drain your battery....your alternator could be going bad. Get the battery tested but it may be time to just get a new one.
Good luck!

Have it checked out first. There is something that is using the power from your battery while it sits idle, like a dome light or something. any automotive shop should be able to tell where the drain is coming from. then once that is fixed, charge the battery and see if is still good, if not, buy a new one.

This used to happen with my old car and never really stopped, even when we replaced the battery. Try checking the battery first. If that's not it, it sounds like your car is slowly draining the battery somehow when it's off. yuck.

You have a high resistance short somewhere in your electrical system. You can avoid repair by disconnecting one battery cable when leaving it parked overnight. Either a bulb is left on or some electrical component is defective, and drawing current when the car is turned off.

The battery if the first one installed when you got the car is now 7 yearsold
Get it tested at autozone and see if it will hold a charge.
If it is that old then it is likly that it is shot
