I've read all Harry Potter books. I found it very interesting at first, but now I still like it, but I can't find something special in it. I can't even remember the story which is weird for me because I always remember all the stories I've ever read in my life except those HP series. And HP is very boring, it can't make me feel sad, or happy, or cry. It's very overrated.

So, why do people love it soooo much?

It's a classic hero story, of a regular person bound by a destiny to destroy evil. I've always found the "forced to be a hero by circumstance" stories interesting. I suppose a lot of people don't.

Well, that's your reaction to it, and that's fine, but the world is made of a lot of different kinds of people. It didn't speak to you, and that's fine.

I'm an adult in my late 20's, and I love the Harry Potter books. I tried reading them when they first became popular and found them boring as dirt. However, as I got older, I enjoyed them more.

I personally think the books are marketed for a younger age than they are actually written for, particularly the most recent ones. It started out with an eleven year old, so that was a natural age to market to. But an eleven year old who picks up all six books released so far and reads through them may lose interest as they have less and less in common with the lead character.

I actually saw the first movie before I read any of the books. My husband had a good laugh at me as I was reading the first book for the first time, because I COMPLETELY forgot that it's Quirrel, and not Snape, who is doing all that stuff.

There are a lot of books I tried to read when I was young and was uninterested in, and when I picked it back up a decade or more later, I really enjoy it. The books do have a lasting quality, and the real genius of J.K. Rowling is the ability to make even the tiniest details pivitol to the story.

I would suggest you try reading them in five or ten years and see if you have a different attitude about them then. You might feel differently.

Also, the humor in the books is really dry. It's there, but it's not a form of humor tons of young people "get", particularly in the later books, there is a lot of sarcasm that's humorous. I have a pretty dry, sarcastic sense of humor, so I think the books are just really entertaining and funny. Fifteen years ago, I probably wouldn't have felt the same way.

I absolutely refused to read them in the beginning. I was dragged to the first movie with a friend and I loved it.... Since then I have been completely hooked. I am an adult but I am able to be a kid again when I read Harry. I remember the days when I was a kid and wanted to do magic. It is a great release to be able to let go of my responsibilities just for a short while to be a little kid brandishing a wand.

I'm with you. I loved the first book, with all the clever wordplay and stuff, and I too kept reading the new books as they came. But now I'm like so what? I think JK has milked HP for all he's worth, and the marketing people have hyped it up so much that people get all excited about it. But the series should have ended a couple books ago. The plot lines are just getting too tangled up to care about or bother to remember, and I'm turned off by the increasingly dark twists.

Because the adventures of harry potter is not something you can guess and be like oh this is gunna happen next. It is a very special and different story than anything else. Also, she took a lot of time to write the story which continues on and still, the excitement follows on. It is special because they have more than millions and millions of fans from everywhere.

Because it's a great hero story of how the underdog comes out on top. And the whole world that J. K. created is so amazing that every books leaves your mind wondering about the the characters and what they do after the school year ends. Well at least I do.

Although, It is under-rated Kids have a lot of stress to. Harry Potter provides a magical world to get lost in. When you really think about it isn't it ideal for everyone to have a magical world of their own? It's only my theory...

Harry the literary equivalent of Starbucks. Anyone can make coffee, but marketed and phenomenalized (if thats a word) correctly anyone will pay $5 for a cup of water with crushed beans.

However that said J.K.s effect on young readership has far surpassed anyone expectations. From this standpoint she has made a great contribution to the writing/reading community.

I've been trying to understand that for a while too . I guess it just hit a vein with younger kids with all of the teenage drama and magic combined . Not for me .
