Do you think person would have wanted one built?
I only ask because when I die, even if for example I cured all the diseases in the world etc, I wouldn't want one.
What do you boys and girls think?

I totally agree with you.
If anyone makes a statue of me when I die, I could not care less...
Because I cant take it with me! The only thing that I can take with me, is the feeling of accomplisment that I have lived a good life and enjoyed it and helped to make a better world.
And knowledge. Knowledge of who you really are, where you come from and where you are going.

Humans are naturally vain, and as I have not heard of any recent statues being built any where near where I live, I believe that they are reserved for important historical figures, and they probably know about them and pose for the artist way before their deaths. If you cured all the diseases in the world, you'd get plenty of money and recognition, and be in all history books, no statue needed. We're a bit over that in this day and age, land costs too much.

very few ever get this honour, most are funded from public subscription. I have always liked the idea of a statue park, a single place where you can go see hundreds. Some statutes are for people who do not mean anything to today's population so a park with plagues explaining their contribution would be neat?

I'm thinking that if they were that noble that they wouldn't expect one built...However...If presented to them when they were still alive, like anybody I'm sure they'd be speechless, flattered, honoured and grateful!
I would also be honoured too, but only pleased if I deserved the statue! I wouldn't want one for something like scoring goals or modelling for D&G!

Thank You!

I think a symbolic representation of what I stood for would be much more appropriate than a likeness of me carved in stone (think the JFK memorial 'eternal flame' in Arlington National Cemetery).

Of course, public memorials require a life's work which expands beyond the boundaries of immediate friends and family, a legacy which is reserved for few individuals.

Statues of famous individuals tend to be ignored and used mostly as a perch and public toilets for birds. Because of that, I don't need no stinkin' statue. Just build me a pyramid, or something like that.

I hope to build one for me before I go, even if no one will have heard of me, I'll put a small story and they'll get to know me if they want to... I guess it gives people something to do on a day out without spending much...

An empty plinth with its endless possibilities is worth a thousand statues.

I think if you did many great things you deserve to have a statue errected of yourself. (Not by your own choice of course) I understand not wanting but you want to think of it as an honor and something to gloat about, dead or alive.

I'd kind of like a statue of me built, even if I didn't do anything great.
