Anniversary would start on the new date they got married. If someone asks how long they have been together, I would calculate all of the years and tell them that.

I believe the new beginning is the new lease on life... or ' start date.' I have yet to see a person celebrate their anniversary on the anniversary of the first year.... when they remarried. If they got married on the same day each time they remarried... I imagine they would. Understand? If you were married January 1, 2000 the first time... your anniversary would be January 1,2001. If you remarried on let's say... August 8, 2003... your anniversary would be celebrated on August 8, 2004... not January 1, 2004. Get it? ( Whew! I almost confused myself that time Honeychild...)

I remarried the same man on a different date (not by choice, that was the only time we could get away) and we still celebrate our anniversary on our original date. Our first wedding certificate hangs on the wall with the "new" one behind it. Our son knows that we divorced and understands "things happen" how ever we never quit loving one another. I personally feel that what ever works for you should work for everybody .. Be happy :-)

My friend does NOT count the first anniversary, only their second. They were divorced 16 months before they got remarried.

My mother remarried her husband after a 6 month divorce from him. They started over with the anniversaries and such. Why don't you just celebrate them both? Your relationship must mean something if you married the same person again!!!

You start counting from the time you got married the second time. (But of course you will tack on the number from the first time married, too....)

It would seem "officially" that it is starting over, since there was a separation of some kind.
