At 13 a good used cheap dirt bike would be a 125 2 stroke (any make)
Not just a ton of power and with the 4-strokes taking over the dirt bike world you should be able to get one at a pretty decent price.
Check your local dirt bike shops for postings.
Good luck!

One of the most dependable bikes ever made also happens to be one that is great for a new rider like yourself to learn on. It's a Honda XR100.
They've changed the name now to a CRF100 but it's still the same basic bike. They've also added a few new bikes to their lineup including a CRF150F and CRF230F that may be more suited towards your needs depending on how tall you are.
I would suggest looking through your local classified papers to try and find one that is in good shape and has been taken care of. You should be able to find a late 90's model for well under $1000.
Just remember to perform proper maintenance on the bike such as keeping an eye on the chain adjustment and making sure the air filter stays clean. You should also change the oil every few months on that particular bike. I would also ask the current owner if he/she performed these routine maintenance procedures to the bike before you purchase it.

I started out on a klx 110, but the bike is extremly small. I would suggest a crf 80, or a crf 125, both are cheap and good bikes. I ride a crf 150 r and it is so nice! But its pretty pricey! Honda is probably the best make you can find because they last forever. But thats only what I've found in my experiance.

It depends on whether or not you have any desire to get into racing. If you do, then I would say get an 80 or 85. Just about every big name manufacturer makes a good product these days and if you get one that's a couple years old they are relatively inexpensive. You are probably too young/small to ride a bigger race bike. If you just want to ride trails, then perhaps an XR100 or TTR 125 is more suitable.

A honda 100 4 stroke would be good. You can get a 2002 year bike it would be a lot cheaper.
