The ants are foraging for food in your house but they actually live in a colony in the ground around your home. You can treat your carpet but it will only be a termporary fix. For a longer, more effective treatment you'll need to kill their colony.

Outdoor poisoned bait like Amdro sprinkled around the foundation of your house will attract the worker ants and they will take it back to the colony to feed the queen and newly hatched ants. The colony will be dead in about a week and your problem will be solved without spraying or dusting your carpet!

Good Luck!

I just had a 5 by 7 foot rug delivered to my home from Walmart. I was so excited I unwrapped it and put it on my kitchen floor, which I cleaned 2 nights ago. A few hours later I went in the kitchen and saw this little tiny, tiny ants crawling all around the carpet and on my floor. They had managed to get on my regular carpet, then underneath my area rugs which weren't even close to the kitchen. I felt like I was going insane! I vacuumed and vacuumed for over an hour, now it's 1 in the morning and I'm half asleep but wondering if it's at all possible these ants were in the carpet that Walmart delivered today. I rolled the carpet up and placed it on my porch outside. What do you guys think? What do I do next?

Sounds like you have Argentine Ants. They will actually eat your carpet.

Get the good stuff at http://pestprojoe.com

I would go with the select ant bait. You may also want to lay down a layer of Boric Dust on the carpet. It is an organic product with no odor, and it's less toxic then table salt.

I put the Boric down in my house for earwigs in the carpet and it solved that problem.

ant problems vary from season to season and year to year....your new neighbors may have brought a few but unlikely......you more than likely are noticing the effects of a dry hot season and the ants are looking for water as well as food.....my suggestion is put a dish of water outside your house too keep the thirsty little fellers outside

Must be something in the carpet to attract ants.
Have you considered cleaning?

I think there's this organic Raid that smells like cloves. Maybe you should give it a coat of that, then wash the carpet in the tub with alcohol and water. (which is scentless when dry)

you must have some food w/sugars in them in the cpt.
find the line where they come in, leave a spoon of jam outside at the site and they will all congregate to that point and then move them like crumbs in the woods, like Hansel & gretel.

ants go for sweets, there is no other reason for the ants to be there...unless they are big 1/2inch long black ants, then you have carpenter ants and they are eating the wood in the house...find the nest and kill with diesel fuel...the white eggs turn red and die.
