When in fact they do not have the data to back their positions. Is that not a form of insanity?

I think that any answer that would be given further proves the point that everyone thinks they are right. People are brought up by different types of families in different environments that shape the way we think and act. A lot of the way we think is also shaped by institutions. We learn biased information all the time. Some people, even though they have very limited knowledge, don't realize that their knowledge is limited. In fact, that's probably the case for everyone, right? None of us know everything.

No, it's because the vast majority of the population is wrong. Without data all they have are feelings, opinions, and experiences...all which cannot be proven right or wrong.
People cannot see the world through someone else's eyes....nor can they see the world through someone else's mind.

Most people think they are right because being wrong has a stronger effect on a persons mental state versus being right. Basicaly - If I am right about something, I may enjoy those good effects for a little while however, if I am wrong, those bad effects will stick with me much longer. So, if we all think we are right then we save ourselves from feeling bad, even if we are completely off base and have no supporting facts or reasoning. Hope I helped.

It's only natural for anyone to assume, barring self-esteem issues, that they are correct. To qoute the Men In Black, as Tommy Jones character says to Will Smith's before he decides to join MIB, 'A person is smart, people are stupid.' lol - Or something close to that.
Think of the principle 'innocent until proven guilty.' People will automatically assume they are right until they are proven wrong or challenged in their assumptions about life.

Everyone wants to be right. They are so concerned with that, they pursue it to the point of insanity. People should be more concerned with being happy, because if all you care about is being right, well then I hope it keeps you company.

WHEW!!! I agree!!!! That IS insanity...

I think its ego. People who have big egos always think they are right. I can say that, because I have an ego problem and I try to keep my mouth shut now about things I have no experience in.

Most of my info comes from my experience, which is MY proof.
