Personally, I like board games, and this question was under "board games", so... given the ages you list, a good starting point would be any of the "Jr." editions of games like Monopoly, Clue, Yahtzee, etc.
There are also many themed editions on some of these as well with characters they probably already like, such as "Disney Princess Monopoly Jr.", "Marvel Heroes Yahtzee, Jr.", "Narnia RISK Jr.".
Of course, there are other classics built for kids, like "Candyland" or "Chutes and Ladders".
Also, kids can easily pick up older classics like marbles, checkers, etc.
All are good stuff, and are very good at promoting interaction with each other and the rest of the family, while building skills, and having just plain fun.

There is Monopoly Jr. Which is pretty easy and fun for kids under 10 because instead of locations in actual Monopoly (example Park Place) They have like Carnival things and amusements in a Carnival/Theme Park

Hmm... card games work for some time with 4 and 8 year olds. Other fun games are Monopoly Junior, Trivial Pursuit Junior (good for improving kids' knowledge), SORRY, and Mancala.

Heres some board games:

Monoply, Life, Adverteasing, Bed Bugs.

Heres some card games:

Old Maid, Rummy, Go Fish, Crazy Eights.

Heres just games:

Black Snake- you take a black rope (a black belt will work, too) and hide it why'll one of the others is in another room. When they come in, you sing "Black snake, Black snak, where are you hiding?" louder when they're close and softer when they're far away.

Spoons- you take a deck of cards and put spoons one less than how many players there are.you flip the cards untill you get to a jack. when you get to a jack, you grab a spoon. (you can use pens, too.)

ahhhh the boring days of summer.

check out familyfun.com for some GREAT ideas. They have game ideas for indoors, outdoors, different ages etc. They also have craft ideas.

A great idea is to go to www.flylady.net and type in "Camp" in the google box. She has created Camp Gonna Wanna Fly which can be loads of fun.

You can also type in "House Fairy" and find a link to a fun way to get kids enjoying cleaning as a game.

Teach them to cook and to clean up after themselves. They'll love it.

Have a great summer!

Heads Up Seven Up! Good for a large group of kids like a classroom. 7 kids are up at the front of the room and the rest must put there heads down and close there eyes with one of their thumbs up.(turn off the lights) The seven kids must tip toe around and choose ONE person and touch their thumb. When your thumb is touched you must put it down. The seven kids must go to the front of the room and the 7 who were touched must stand up and one by one guess which one of the seven touched their thumb. If they guess correctly then they go to the front and the picker sits down and its done all over again.

there are lots of games like blind mans bluff, um...with a huge group of kids you can play over here maydee(or however its spelled when kis get on any amount of teams(not one) even numbered(Fair) and someone says something like order your middle names longest to shortest or somethin like that. The kids figure it out get in a line of middle names and yell "OVER HERE MAYDEE", another game for a large group is heads up seven up which is really fun for little kids too where seven people go up front and the others sit down. the front people tap someones thumb and when they do the person pputs their thumg down. Then once everyones done the seven people have to guess who tapped them. If they get it right they get to be up front and the other person sits down. and so forth...

"Mole in Hole" is good.
The kids pretend they are a mole, hiding in a hole.
You have a supply of about five to ten pillows or cushions.
The mole sticks his face out of the hole and taunts you.
You throw one of the pillows or cushions at the mole.
The mole ducks out of the way.
Either way it's fun; the mole evades the missile or gets hit.
