This morning I woke up and saw a gnat buzzing around my room. "No big deal." I thought, shooing it away. I went on with my day, until I went into the kitchen about an hour ago. It seemed like there was a complete INFESTATION of gnats! I snapped about four of them in an old schoolbook, and took out the trash multiple times, but they're still there. Any safe ways you know to get rid of them without pesticides(this is a kitchen as you know)?

First wash your broom handle then check your garbage cans gnats or sand flies usually don't last long in the house it sounds more like fruit flies to me maybe you had some fruit in the garbage they only take a short time to hatch i think its like 12 hours or some thing just take out what ever garbage there coming from and wash the basket afterward with dish soap and water that should take care of them. but if its really gnats just use a small squirt of raid and then wipe surfaces around it off raid won't kill you unless you drink it or inhale large amounts of it and i pretty sure your smart enough to not do either.

You can get fly strips at WalMart this time of the year. They are in the garden center. You just hang the sticky things up and the gnats will stick to the strip. They are attracted to it. I also have had luck leaving a bowl of water with honey in it out. They fly into the bowl to get a drink and can't get out. The strips work faster though. They are unsightly, but you don't have to leave them up for long. Make sure you don't have any animals or kids who can get into the sticky strips!

Good luck! :)

Pour a 1/2" of cider vinegar into a bowl. Add a couple drops of unscented dish liquid. In a couple hours you will see many drown gnats.

If you want professional advice, ....

You can us Amonia, but that is more toxic then a lot of pesticides these days.

Spray some Cy-Kick Cs in the drain around the area that you are seeing them. Cy-Kick is base on the chrysanthemum flower.

Or Spray MicroCare if you want an organic product. You can also use it to treat in the trash can.

You can get both at http://pestprojoe.com
