If you are fluent in English you don't need another language at all. 99% of people can speak and understand English to some extent. In Vancouver, Richmond, Burnaby, and New Westminster I would recommend taking both Mandarin and Cantonese because there are many Chinese living here. Cantonese is perhaps even more beneficial since a large portion of Chinese immigrants originated from Hong Kong.
As you move east to Surrey or Abbotsford you will find Punjabi to be helpful. Hindi isn't really as popular as Punjabi for the most part.
French is entirely unnecessary for a nursing job in BC as most people can't speak more French than Bonjour and Oui. Good Luck!

I ran into this link last week. It looks like it will come in handy. So, I'd agree that "English only" is good enough to get hired. But if you want to brush up on a language then Punjabi or Cantonese seem to be the picks. As for the high French on this list, my bet is it is Skewed because of the number of Federal Government Jobs that are Bilingual. No one else in the province speaks French. Here, the second link is Vancouver's make up. French falls in 7th behind Punjabi, Cantonese, Mandarin, German, and Philippine. It is hard to really know on some of it as many just report in as Chinese.
In a medical Field these might be good, as your likelihood of running into an elderly that speaks very little English and only their Mother Tongue is probably going to happen sooner or later.

English of course. no one I know speaks french out here except my high school french teacher. Pick-up mandarin, cantonese and Punjabi. Try to forget as much french as possible to create room in your head.
Oh and East Indians in BC are 90% punjabi and do get quite annoyed when someone tries to talk to them in Hindi just because they are indian.

A government which robs Peter to pay Paul can always depend on the support of Paul. -- George Bernard Shaw Because they are not paying for them. They just get the votes and milk the rest of the tax paying citizens. The illegals get tax credits. In California they get $341 each month just in food stamps, not counting the WIC and other 15 different federal and stated money.

You can't go wrong with Mandarin or Hindi. French is practically non-existent out here (and no one knows what poutine is out here either).
Besides, you'll get a job even without a second language. We're crying for nurses out here.
