I had a downsyndrome test and it wasn't all business. You get to see your little one, but it isn't as clear as your 20 week ultrasound will be. You can see there tiny heart beating. If your husband decides not to go, they will give you pictures of your little one that he can look at. Congrats on your pregnancy, and good luck with your testing.

I had mine done today actually, it was about 45 min. long. The necula fold test is what you are probably having done. Its a very tricky thing, they have to get a measurement of the back of the neck and depending on the measurement you will get blood done.
My u/s technician was very nice, she showed me everything. She pointed out the stomach, feet, legs, hands, arms, brain, and ect.
She however did not get to measure the back of the neck, the baby wouldn't cooperate. The tech made me drink juice, walk around, and I tried everything and the baby didn't want to cooperate. She reassurred me that our baby is perfect and if I really need the measurement she will try tomorrow.
I said no, as long as the baby is fine.
They gave me 2 pictures, I guess it all depends on the technician though.
This is my 3rd ultrasound since I am high risk, I have had a couple miscarriages and they just want to make sure they cover all their basis. I am 12 weeks tomorrow.
Congrats!

You would be suprised at what an ultrasound can show you at 12 weeks. You shoudl be able to see teh profile and the arms and les moving abotu in there You will be able to see an actual baby, rather than just a blob of cells or something. Your husband will probably enjoy seeign thigns, eve if tehy do not take tiem to show yu the baby and all of his or her parts.
As far as it being 'all business'...well that depends...some doctors will just do their thing and eb done with it...where others will sense the excitement in you, and play around for a bit and show you the baby more if you wan to see it. I have had both kinds of doctors. I woudl have your hubby go with you...he will be missing out....liek I said...even if they do not show you the individual parts indepthly, you and your husband will be able to see the baby moving and swimming aroudn in there, and you WILL be able to tell what part is what on your own. You will be able to disguinish arms and legs and face, etc. It will/may be hard foryou to detect details such as gender, or where exactly the baby is looking, etc, but you will get to see your baby...never pass up the chance to do that!
Congrats!

At twelve weeks you can see a lot of things and hear the hearbeat. Also the baby is able to move around more and you can see it do such things as wave and dance. At 20 weeks you can find out if its a boy or a girl, and detect major organs. The further along you get the harder it gets for the baby to move. My favorite ultrasound was the one done at 12 weeks. At my level 2 ultrasound I didnt notice much movement.

I had an ultrasound at 10 weeks. They took time to show me the baby, but at that size there really isn't a lot to see. You can see the heart beating and you can see the sack, but it doesn't really look like a baby yet. I couldn't even tell which end was the head and which end was the butt. They did let me video tape it though (that was before DVD).

it really depends on who is doing your scan. Some techs will "show you around" some take their measurements and are done. But I think your husband will regret missing it, even if it is all business, because at 12 weeks, you can still see quite a bit, and can see most of the baby on the screen, even if you don't get the grand tour, so to speak.

I don't actually know. At our office and every one I've been to, they do it all at once between 18-20wks. They say that you get more accurate results of the Downs measurements at 18wks. At 12 weeks, it's too early to show you the sex of the baby accurately so I would think maybe if they do anything, they might show you the baby but don't look for anything spectacular.

Every time i had a sonogram/ultrasound they always showed me my baby and his heart beat. If they dont just ask. To sexy momma- how do you know her husband doesnt have a busy work schedual and he doesnt really want to take off unless its going to be worth his while? What would be the point of him going if they wouldnt show them anything? Def have him go though when i had my uttrasound at 10 weeks i saw my baby moving!

They will show you your baby and answer any questions you may have. But they will also explain that the purpose of ultrasounds is not to show you pics of your little one. It's main purpose is to determine is everything is ok or not. Yes, it kind of sucks. But I'd rather know my child is ok even if it means I can't look at them the entire ultrasound procedure.

When I got my first sonogram they did measurements and all that but after that for a while to they showed my baby and the heart and lil stomach and all that. It was very exciting and my bf was glad he saw it so I think your husband would enjoy to come to. (I was 20 weeks at the time)
