Description:
What is Goth? dispels the false stereotypes and reinforces the true ones surrounding Goths and Goth culture. "To the mundane," Voltaire writes, "Goths are weird, black-clad freaks who are obsessed with death; they are sad all of the time. Take a closer look at the Goth scene, however, and you will find a rich tapestry of ideas and practices and a menagerie of colorful characters. Oh, dear. I said 'colorful.'" This illustrated answer to What Is Goth? shows readers how to:
- Identify the anatomies of different kinds of Goths: CyberGoths, RivetHeads, Romantigoths, Goth-a-billies, and more
- Write a poem (Mad Libs style) with the Gothic Poem Generator
- Properly dance the dances of darkness: "Cobwebs in the Attic," "The Gothic Tai Chi Dance," "Pulling the Evil Taffy"
- A funny, strange, and spooky guide to how to be, look, and feel Goth.
- From Tim Burton to Evanescence to pierced tongues, Goth is here to stay.
- Voltaire's graphic novels, including Oh My Goth, have sold over 50,000 copies.

Cody's Recommends This Book!
Voltaire has created a perfect little Gothic gem. With an insider's perspective he explains the Gothic subculture's aesthetic, philosophy, and diverse manifestations. His perceptive and biting wit is better able to sum up the gothic movement than any other more serious or bloated book to date. This book is for everyone who has a spooky soul, whether your "Goth runs deep like a dark river through your blackened heart or it just squeaks along the surface of your vinyl trousers."

Why would your mother flip over gothic books?

Anyway, I'd suggest you start with the first Gothic novel ("The Castle of Otranto", by Horace Walpole) and move your way forward chronologically.

There are many good books about Goths in the history section of libraries. That is, real Goths, not a bunch of people who stole the name, and are playing kids games.

Edgar Allan Poe im sure you've heard about him in school.
He's one the darkest poet ever and its kind of education.
So is Stephen King not really gothic but creepy but the same right?

Try to avoid acting like a moron whenever possible. Changing your id to something other than 'Ms. Murder' would be a start.

Then your mom would come to trust your judgment.
