I could have asked what happened to the hippies, but that would have been another question.

The hippies were, of course, against "the establishment" all together. They were against all government agencies and the wealthy.
So, in return, they were despised.

In general, they were appalled, and concerned about the future of "proper" society.

The problem with the hippie generation is that it stressed individuality and freedom to the exclusion of responsibility and common sense. The educational system started a nose dive during this time because "old fashioned" ideas were suddenly out of vogue, and everyone wanted to be "hip" and trendy.

The rich only embraced the artistic part of the hippie culture. Andy Warhol and his crowd were huge celebrities. Of course, Andy Warhol wasn't driving around in a VW Caravan and spending all his time gettng high. A lot of hotels refused to allow people of the hippie culture (even rich ones, such as music stars) into their hotels because it scandalized the traditional elite.

Hippies? With the rich elites!! No way, man! Them hippies make me and Paris Hilton sick to our stomachs! Why, all they ever did was smoke pot -- inhaling, too, yes siree!!! -- and have sex and buy things and act holier than thou. Not like the rich elite at all!!!! Why, in my day we'd roust them hippies out in the middle of the night and make 'em join the Republican party JUST TO PISS THEM OFF!!! Now maybe some stayed, but the rich elite don't do none of those hippies things. Me and Paris Hilton HATE how people don't work hard for their money!! They want it from us!!! After we worked hard to get it!!! Why, if I'd had my druthers, we wouldn't even have different classes in this country, Rich and poor!!! No hippies either!! Let me keep my money. Me and Paris Hilton worked hard for our money and we deserve to keep it!!! Why, hippies, pfew! They're even worse than the poor. We NEED the poor!!!!!

In some cases the hippies grew old and became rich. In most cases the rich saw the hippies as something to exploit commercially and let their hair grow long and started smoking dope.

There were a lot of kids from 'rich elite' families out in the Haight ...uni drop-outs, money-from-dad types...they were rebelling against the parental units, and selected exactly the right lifestyle to drive mom 'n dad crazy. The music was brilliant, dope was cheap, clothes were exhilarating - and Herb Caen, the philosopher-journo of the day, said it best: "You have to turn hippies upside down like kittens to find out what sex they are." ba-da-bing!

Floating gauze frocks, unitards, bangles & beads, dead-white makeup picked up with major eye effects [kohl & bright green eyeshadow] -- what's not to love? Music everywhere, incense & patchouli in the air, and sucker-tourists everywhere susceptible to charming panhandlers out working the corners. The rich elites just kept their checkbooks humming - eventually everyone went home, got haircuts, and bummed out.

Hippies were for the most part children of middle to upper class people. They had some good ideas about making society more tolerant and open but their beliefs also in agrarian and socialist ideas were just full of BS

Today's rich elites were yesterdays hippies.

I think, at the time, the rich elites were more concerned with other fringes. Anti Vietnam War demonstrations, civil rights protests, Black Panthers, and SDS bank bombers were more troubling than the love generation.

No. in case you examine any e book on the murders it is going to clarify the the manson followers commited the murders because of the fact of Helter Skelter. They had to start a warfare. they have in no way denied it. They have been given on that stand and defined how they killed their victims. The hippy way of life didnt end with Manson and his followers.

How would you like to go down? This is a touchy subject. I don't feel right about it and wish it would blow over.
