My uncle purchased a boat in 1986 and never paid for it from a company in Florida that's now out of business. I would have to guess that the bank that gave him the loan holds the title now but I have no idea what bank. Is there a way to get the title thanks for your help : )

The boat should have been registered at some time or another. Is there a number on the side by the bow? You may be able to check with the city or state licensing agency, and be able to get a copy of the title or at least the information as to who holds the lien on the title. That may be one place to start.

The Dept of Motor Vehicles would have the information you seek on record, go to them and explain your interest, however the boat may end up in probate for a long time. If their was anyone Else on title then that person is the legal owner.

Nobody in the family has his personal records?
DMV would have the Lien holder information. They probably can't give it to you but they can send a letter with your story/information to them and then it's up to them to make contact with you.
I say just keep the boat and wait for them to come looking for it. Most loans have a "pay in full" death insurance thing. Get a copy of the death certificate. You may need it in the future.

I do not know but what I do know is do not put any money into the boat till the title is in you name. I have seen people come to CHP with cars and boats and leave with nothing.
