If I remember right, didn't the conservative Pontius Pilate pardon Barrabas and crucify Jesus Christ?

Pilate gave the Jewish people a choice of who they wanted released. It was custom to release one prisoner during passover. The Jewish people chose Barrabas and asked Pilate to crucify Christ. It was not Pilate's choice.

At any rate I do not think Pilate could accurately be classified as either liberal or conservative based on today's standards.
