Yes, a fuel filter can cause an engine to stop, however, there are so many other things that can also. Is your fuel pump running? Are any other lights on in your car? Did the motor loose spark?

If your fuel filter is clogged, it will cut off the fuel flow to the engine. Has it done this before? Another possibility is the fuel pump. If the engine is getting fuel, your timing belt may have slipped or broken. Your car will not start if this happens.

Not a fuel filter, did the check engine light come on?
Need more info.
A computer is a better guess.

Yes. Are you sure you have the right filter for your vehicle? The wrong filter can cause this. Also, is it positioned properly?
Try checking these things and then change the filter. If this doesn't work it could be a number of things..
Take it to a mechanic.

Sure it will. If it is plugged then fuel can't get to the engine.

have you fitted a new one? if so is it the right way round?
failing that, take it out and see if it runs then. this will tell you if the filter is at fault
hang on .if its diesel have you primed the filter/pump ie got rid of all the air? a diesel wont pump air so wont "suck" the fuel thro on its own.
most diesels have a pump primer

yes it is possible but unlikley........if the engine is starved for fuel it may be a fuel pump if there is no spark then its an ignition problem......if neither one of these it could be deeper and more costly.

No I dont think so, if it started to began with and then quit , it is very likely that it is a Fule pump. If it wont start at all it could be the battery!!

Yes if it is clogged it can. It will also cause it to run very badly. If it is clogged your car will act like it is running out of gas
