My mother in-law's chameleon just laid 41 eggs without ever setting eyes on a male, so she may well have non vialble eggs she needs to lay, it s VERY important to take extra care with her, becoming egg bound is a very serious problem. You did good to recognise something wrong with her spending time on the ground, generally chams will only go to the ground to hunt (which is obviously easy to eliminate if this is what she is doing, is there food on the floor?) or to lay eggs or to die, sorry to put it bluntly.

You need to provide a container like a wide ice cream tub full of soil for her to dig a nest. make sure every meal is dusted with calcium, egg laying takes a hell of a lot out of females, i have had a cham dye from exhaustion while in labour. becoming egg boung is when the cham doesn't have sufficient calcium to form the eggs properly, and they become stuck in 'the system' which again can cause death. if she is not eating due to her ordeal, then get some calsium drops to add to the water, and have a drip system (can be as simle as a plastic cup with a hole in the bottom to give a constant drip into the viv) place on top of the mesh lid, if you have one! She needs to have constant access to water, even if she isn't feeding, this is sooooo important especially now. if you don't have a mesh top to create a dripping system, then misting AT LEAST 3 times a day is required. but don't spray her directly. spray the walls and furniture, she will lick the dropletts off.

Good luck and here is my email if need anymore advise from a cham lover jodi_101uk@hotmail.com

Chameleons that are searching for a nesting site (and yes they frequently lay eggs without being mated) tend to be very restless. They often go into the corners of the enclosure and will paw at the sides and corners. They don't tend to just lay listlessly on the ground unless the situation has already become critical. At one year old, yours is around the age for eggs. If she is showing the restless/searching behaviour then offer her a nesting site. I used to use the bottom of a critter pal for mine (the one that is about 6 in. by 8 in.) It should have about 5 or 6 inches of a damp sandy soil mix, a consisitency that will hold a tunnel as she digs. Make it a bit "private" with some foliage and an access branch leading down to it.

If she is on the ground but inactive I would suggest a vet.

A male chameleon might grow to be extra brilliant in colouration and a feminine might grow to be extra stupid in colouration as they each might be responding to their mirrored image - the male becomming competitive and showing and the feminine fitting shy and submissive. Chameleons are good hidden because of their base color, inexperienced, mixing with their inexperienced atmosphere. Their precise color is a mirrored image of temper, no longer atmosphere.

The obvious question is has she been around a male. If not we can assume that she is not pregnant and their is something wrong. Most likely a vitamin defic. or the humidity in the environment it not correct.

gently massage the area around her back legs; if you feel something that feels like marbles, she is gravid (pregnant). if not, she might just be sick. this could be from a vitamin deficiency, but you should take her to the vet to be sure it isnt something serious.
