computer boots up but it will not open windows 2000?

it will boot up and when it check disk it cuts off and start boot all over again why?
at times it gets to windows and freezes there

Have you tried to boot it in "safe mode"? This will allow you to go into Control Panel and look for corrupted drivers, etc. If you can open it in safe mode, get a free copy of "Ccleaner" and run that in safe mode to troubleshoot the registry and file associations.

Re-install W2K and format the hard drive. I hope you did a BackUp.
