To clean thermal paste off of my copper heatsink for my CPU I used acetone from Home Depot on a non-abrasive cloth that's meant to clean eyeglasses. For musical instruments, I use Brasso (also at Home Depot, Ace Hardware, maybe Target) with old t-shirts/socks. I've heard of the vinegar method mentioned above for copper cookware, although I don't personally own any. You might want to try Martha Stewart's website for more home-remedy type solutions...they always send me those pamphlets in the mail to sign up for her magazine and it usually includes tips for cleaning different materials.

Here you are this might help you out a little. Some information about cleaning different types of metal. Cleaning copper , brass, bronze, pewter, and silver. Clean heavily tarnished brass with a solution of 1 heaped tablespoon of salt and 2 tablespoons of vinegar to a pint of water. Remove a green deposit on copper, called VERDIGRIS, with paste made up of whiting and methylated spirit. Polish both metals with a mildly abrasive metal polish. Do not be tempted to lacquer polish copper and brass antiques- though it will save regular polishing it will also lower their value. Bronze acquires a patina with age , in shades of brown or blue-green, which should never be removed. Do not polish bronze, simply wipe it occasionally with a soft cloth. Polish pewter frequently, if neglected it takes on a dull grey finish which is difficult to remove. Use a proprietary pewter polish, not general metal polish which is too abrasive, and rub vigorously. Silver ans silver plated tarnish very quickly, but will retain their shine if cleaned regularly silver polish applied with a soft cloth or chamois leather. Always polish silver in straight stokes, not a crosswise or rotary motion. After polishing, clean in hot soapy water. Hope this help´s you out.

Wright's Copper Cream. I used it for years. It's so easy and quick! They quit making it for a while. It's back on the market! I got it at a True Value store.

I know this sounds odd, but if you put the blood of a virgin pelican in the pan and freeze it for 6 hours, then boil it until reduced, and add 3 quarts of premium 30 weight motor oil and soak overnight, it will come out shiney as new........
