Yes--even on the couple of years where I happened to be alone--I took myself for lunch and a movie, or bought myself something special.
I was raised to celebrate all relatives birthdays--regardless of the age of the birthday-person, and I've raised my children the same way. If they happened to be working on my birthday, we will celebrate when they are free--as we do on all of their birthdays. At minimum, cake and cards...

Every year, even if I'm out of town due to work which has happened 2 years in a row!! But I make my fave birthday cake and go out to eat some place that I really like with my family. It's fun to do!!

I'm lucky. My birthday is Halloween so no matter where I am (in a good part of the world) someone is throwing a party during my birthday. It's kind of cool that way!
