i'm a desi (indian) girl. i'm punjabi and was born in america and have been here all my life. befoe i listened to punjabi music for a while, but now i'm sick of it. i'm trying to go back to listening to good hip-hop and rock, but it's too hard. can anyone help me with making this transition?

Realize that being able to listen to music isn't always a natural thing that were breed with. Its a matter of social conditioning. This becomes extremely president in american music. Understand that its not based on the same norms, vaules, or ideals of any other culture so the lyrics, beat, and tone are going to be quite different then what your use to listening to. Besides rap/hip-hop despite what they teach you in church, takes a very tuned ear to understand, better yet interpet. Also rock and roll is based on so many conflicting ideas that its hard to have passion for it unless you too are a product of conflicting ideas. Also more then 90 percent of the music espacially after 1998 is pure crap/pop culture bs whose only purpose was to insite people to by the top hit of the time, not music as much as a envolved form of show tunes....
