Steven King he has a book Everything's Eventual with 14 short stories it's amazing!! and as much as a dork as I am I love J.K Rowling's Harry Potter series. James Patterson is also a fantastic Writer. For non-fiction(although you didn't ask) I would recommend David Sedaris' book Me Talk Pretty One Day it is full of great personal encounters of his life and his writing is wittingly funny.

Tim Dorsey hands down. Especially if you have lived in Florida. Hilarious books about a serial killer and his pothead friend roaming around Florida, mostly looking for a briefcase full of money and random tourist attractions along the way.

Hands down, my favorite fiction author is J.R.R. Tolkien. I have yet to find a copy of 'The Children of Hurin', but I'm dying to read it.

I also love Ray Bradbury (absolutely AMAZING), Libba Bray (can't wait 'til December!) and J.K. Rowling (17 days!)
