What can they learn at their lil age?

I'm looking into it since my lil boy will be 6 months in 2 weeks, but am curious as to what they teach.

Jeeesh what party pooper answers you've gotten. I've never thought that my infant was truly going to swimming lessons to learn to swim at 6 months old, so I don't know where those answerers get that info.!!

Our classes have been really fun. They are basically to get your child used to the water, and no, it's not the same as the bathtub at all. They splash around, you 'float' them around on their tummies, and if they get into it enough, you 'float' them around on their backs. We also put our babies up on the side of the pool & (never letting go) had the babies 'jump' into the water, and the parents that felt comfortable with it, gave their babies a little dunk. We never learned "bouancy" as far as just letting go of the babies and seeing what happens, that sounds a bit dramatic to me... We loved going, and now that our daughter is 17 months old, we go to a wading pool at our park, where most of the babies & toddlers are screaming and don't like to go in the water, and our daughter loves it, and will still float with us, and play around. I think the lessons really helped get her used to water like that, and especially with the splashing. I think it's a great idea to put babies in these infant lessons, if you wait until 2 or 3, you could (but not neccesarily) have a screaming toddler on your hands. Have fun~

Its more of just an introduction to water. I use to teach this class and it so cute. The babies really laugh a lot and have fun splashing. They aren't going to be taking off doing a swimming stroke anytime soon, but it just helps for down the road being comfortable getting their faces wet and being splashed. It's more for the enjoyment of the parents too. They sing silly songs and splash and get their faces wet. That's really about it.

honestly its pointless to teach your kids to swim at 6 months old, at this point its mostly introduction to water and getting the infant to learn that water is fun. however like they said before it give parents a false sense of security and makes children bolder especially around the ages or 2-3. if you want to teach him because you think it will be cute or you want to start early, you can introduce him to water in the bathtub(start with getting their face wet)

2-3 is in fact the bext age, in my opinion to start. as that is a good time to ease their fear of water before the actual learning stages of 4-7 where learning is the fastest and most permamanent.

Babies can "learn" to swim in as little as 6 months, but experts say this will lull parents into a false sense of security where water/safety is concerned so it's better to wait a few yrs. to give children swim lessons... However, if it's something you want to try with you baby it can be a really good bonding experience... I myself think it's creepy.... They teach floating... bouancy...
