Virtually all tortoiseshell or calico cats are females. Occasionally a male is born (the rate is approximately 1 in 3,000. This is to do with their genes. Im to thick to explain the ins and outs but have a look at the link below and it will let you all.

No, they are always female. It is due to a genetic reason that links tortoiseshell cat colouring to the female gene.
Much the same as white haired and blue-eyed cats are always deaf.

It is rare for a Torti to be male but it can happen(same thing with Calico).

I have had hundreds of cats in my life and have never seen a male calico or totoiseshell. I have heard that if you have one it is worth a lot of money, but I do not think that they are happen.

ADDED: white cats with blue eyes are more likly to be deaf, but not ALWAYS. We have only have one that was deaf that had blue eyes and two with yellow eyes. And a lot more white with blue eyes that were not.
