Officially they Raiders have stated they will be starting Walter and having Russell at #2 so that he can have time to develop and learn the system. Whether he stays at #2 for the whole season or if the Raiders do what Tennessee did last year by moving Young to #1 and Collins to #2, and put Russell in as the starter after 5 games, no one knows.

Having Randy Moss didn't stop Oakland from having the lowest rated Offense in the NFL, why should having Jamarcus Russell be any different?

It's all about the coaches. Look What Tony Dungee did with Tampa (turned them from the laughingstock of the league into superbowl contenders) and then did the same thing with Indianapolis (only this time the franchise had the sense not to get rid of him right before the big one.)

Until the coaching staff of the Raiders get their acts together, they will continue to stink up the league, no matter how many big names they add to their roster.

That Raiders offense has serious problems. In particular, that offensive line needs pretty much complete reconstruction. I'm not sure Jamarcus can stay upright long enough to complete too many passes.

The Raiders aren't nearly as bad a team as everyone seems to think though, because their secondary quietly became one of the best in the league last season.

He shouldnt start but he probably will at some point. and while the Raiders won't be in the playoffs they will be better than last year. Russell will show flashes but he'll need time to develop.

2007 NFL Draft
On January 10, 2007, Russell stated that he had decided to skip his final season of NCAA eligibility with LSU and enter the 2007 NFL Draft,[2], where he was picked by the Oakland Raiders as the 1st overall draft pick. USC coach Pete Carroll said he considered Russell to be the player his former offensive coordinator and current Oakland Raiders coach Lane Kiffin should select.[3] Soon after announcing his decision to enter the Draft, Russell began working out with former College of San Mateo coach Tom Martinez, who has also worked with Tom Brady.[4

By drafting Russell the Raiders have given away the future, this bust will destroy their salary cap for years to come.

He will eventually be named the starter this year, basically same situation as Leinart, Young, and Cutler last year.

The HAND OF GOD couldn't make the Raiders any better.

Eventually he will. He can hit an airplane from his knees. But...Raiders are gonna suck for a few more years. You guys need a stud RB and never ever ever let Aaron Brooks touch a football again. We learned that in N.O.

He might play..but he wont make a difference if he's getting sacked 8 times per game...
