Contrary to what some have said marriage was not created in the "church". In ancient times it was more profitable for a family if there were mostly males born to the family. In some families female babies (and it still happens in some parts of the world today) were killed in order to accomodate the male children because they were more desireable. However the women of the clans decided that their girl babies would no longer be murdered and fathers had to find a way to get rid of the burden of having to feed and clothe female children so they would offer land, lifestock and money to any male who would take their daughter's off of their hands. Once the bond had been made, there would be a celebration and the female child would become property of the other man. The "church" didn't become involved until religions began cropping up. Christianity didn't get into it until after Christ was murdered which was just over 2,000 years ago because there was no Christianity until then.

Men created marriage as a way to control who was the father of the children and to control the women as chattel. The good news in America, at least, things have changed. But that is the history of marriage. We evolved in a tribal culture where the strong man controlled the breeding, in the same the bull ape controls who breeds with the females. Sorry, that's evolution. Of course, religion say's we all started 6000 years ago in the garden and couldn't procreate until after eve ate the apple. Good for her.

God created marriage. In Genesis, the Bible says God created Eve from Adam's rib. He created marriage because it's not good for a man to be alone.

The Church did...so they could keep track of paternity of the children (lineage and who was inheriting what).
Prior to marriage it could be tough to determine who fathered a child on a woman so the church scared people into thinking only a husband could have sex with a wife (even if he was allowed to have several wives) so it would be known (or pretty sure) who fathered a child on any particular (married) woman.

God did.....I don't know why other than to populate the earth and show Satan that every time you think you have one.....I will snatch him or her away from you......Saying you can't have what is mine.
He is the creator of life and we are all his children.....Jesus died for us.....
