Have you heard the song "Stop me" from Mark Ronson with some guy named Daniel Merriweather?Another white guy sounding like a brother? He sounds a bit soulful but . . .
What the hell is going on? You got Justin, Robin Thicke, now this guy. Not to stereotype but aren't white guys supposed to sound like . . . Coldplay or Metallica or something? Now they sound like they're Marvin Gaye's cousins.

Ok for those who say that what I said was a little racist or "black people don't own all the soul" Look at your musical history, not just 20-30 years ago with Bowie or Tom Jones Dusty Springfield or Hall and Oats. I mean look at it, then get back to me.

Well you are stereo typing..they can sound as they please. And why can't they have soul? because of their skin tone? What does a brother sound like? Because my husband is black and he can't sing for the life of him! If you got it , you got it regardless of skin tone!

I pretty much agree, but there are a few exceptions to every rule. Although it's parody, the "Blues Brothers" did a good job in the movie with help from the late, great Cab Calloway. The movie "The Commitments" is about a truly good Irish soul band. Although it's a movie, they did their own vocals. When they were challenged on the ability of the Irish to sing soul, they said "why not? The Irish are the n****** of Europe." Same thing with gospel music. I detest white gospel and love Black gospel. I did grow up near Detroit and can't think of any decent white soul singers except one---Joss Stone and she's British. Nothing wrong with white music--it's different and I'd generalize and say the best rock and roll is white (and often British), but--going back in time--no one can touch Al Green or Marvin Gaye or Otis Reddings and so many more. We've got some great young soul singers coming up, but the white women are better than the white guys. (I'm white btw and I do not think your comments are even a little racist. Good topic)

Honey, take a look at the Richeous brothers, or Janis Joplin.
Even further back.
Janis Sang the blues better than anyone since Billy Holiday (and Billy was half black/half white)
The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix (a white man in black skin)
Living colour (black guys playing very hard rock)
Music is about playing what you feel.
EDIT: Yes, the Rolling Stones. Listen to their music and see.
Why? because i know you never have.
Listen to Mick on Sister Morphine, he hurts and he makes you hurt listening.
On Gimmie Shelter, again he makes you feel how he felt.
Hell, you want the Blues from the oddest of sources, listen to AC/DC's Ride On. You'll feel Bon Scott's pain of self-realization.

Hahaha... This is just a tad bit funny. And a tad bit racist.
Music is expression, not just fitting in with the crowd. According to your point of view, all whites should be singing rock, because that's what they started, correct? Doesn't that logic mean that all blacks should beat a Djembe? No.
Music is colorblind.

Who says sound has a color? Soul is soul and either you have it or you don't. Blacks don't own the soul market you know.
Not all blacks can sing either so explain that one to me.
