I got my girlfriend a PC recently, used. It was totally wiped, had to install an OS. Went with Windows XP. Anyways, I get the impression that it's a custom job as I can't find a model number for it anywhere. It has an integrated sound card but I can't seem to find any drivers. It has an AMD Athalon (XP) 1800+ 1.5ghz processor...and I don't know alot about AMD computers. The case says it's a "Tangent" but that's about all I can figure out. Can anyone tell me how to find out what sound drivers I need or anything else?

The best way to find out what motherboard you have is to use the site below, it will advise you on what memory you need to upgrade, not what you want I know but It'll tell you your chipset/motherboard which will be a good jumping point to track down the correct drivers. I used to build pc's and know all about the pain involved! Any probs message me and I'll try to help.

If the sound card is integrated.. you can probably find information about the motherboard in the bios. When you first turn the computer on, a screen will show for just a moment. On it somewhere, it will say "F1 for Bios" or "F10 for setup" or something similar.

Look for this and go in there and look for model numbers. Be careful not to change any settings.
If this does not work, turn the computer off and open up the case and see if you can get a model number and manufacturer off of the motherboard itself.

Popular names are:
Asus, Biostar, PC Chips, but there are many many more.

If the motherboard has it's manufacturers name and model #, then just go to their web site and download the drivers for that board. If you can't find the boards model number, then look at the chip set and get the manufacturer's name and the number off of the clip. Go to their site and download the drivers for that chip set.

take the side of the case off and look for the motherboard serial number on the motherboard, put that into google and you will get the motherboard details. once you know the name and manufacturer you can go to there website and download the sound drivers.
