i want to set up raid 0 or mirrored!!?
i want to setup up a raid array to be current w/the times and i am spending frugliy if i buy a hard (wd 400gb) ,install my OS on it. can i (when i get the other wd 400gb HDD #2) still use the raid array setup or do i have to have them both (HDD's)at the OS install?? buy one now, and the other later. but go ahead and install the OS on on the first without having the other , and still set it up in raid 0???? my mobo supports all raid configs with software (ASUS Crosshair)

cant with raid 0 beacause they will both run as one so your os will only see a 800gig hard drive 2 x 400

and i dont think you can with mirrored cause everything has to be wrote to both drives which will include your os

plus you need more than one drive to configure raid so you couldn't set up raid with one drive and then buy another later

If you use the raid configuration on the MB that you have to have both HDDs at the time of the install.

I believe there is a way, in drive management, in XP to create a software raid after the OS install, for mirror only.

no u would need to get both drives at the same time and set it up. mirrored drives copy the same info, so if 1 hd breaks, the other drive can rebuild it. thats what i have in my system. 2x250
