Much of the time, I just will nod my head and ignore them (Like when I argue with my mom; there is no sense in trying to get her to see your point of view).
But if it's really important, I'll stand my ground.

of course it depends on the subject but I have found that usually arguing w/some people is like fighting w/a pig in the mud, you find out the pig likes it.
