Hiya Sienna,

The word "consumer" didn't make it into your question. I mention this because the average person only ever gets to see consumer market HMD products and the goodies are still hiding. It is true current level of "available" technology has not produced solutions for the many shortcomings of HMD products. You can purchase an HMD with decent resolution but the price is quite extreme.

Virtual reality software and popularity is not yet a huge issue and while the demand is low we will not see affordable hardware. I believe this will soon change and eventually VR will be a part of daily life. The military has had quality HMDs for a while, mostly for air combat training.

Here are some links that may help you:

1. Wikipedia offers overall information and links

2. Virtual Reality Resources offer VR products of many types and manufacturers to the public This link is actually to a resolution comparison and evaluation report.

3. Engineering Systems Technology has the real deal. Amazing technology that I just cannot afford.

4. Virtual Research is one of the Top Dogs. The 1280 is doable at around $15,000.00 US, so if you have the cash, you might just like the resolution.

As far as a PS3 or XBOX compatible unit, we still have to wait for the prices to drop.

I hope this helps. GOOD LUCK!!

When someone makes one with a decent resolution.

Depends what you mean by "decent" and what you intend to do with it.

Remember the eye is not designed to focus as such short distances for long periods . . .
