Why is it selfish for my wife and I to not want kids?
Wouldn't it be more selfish to have kids and then neglect them?

It's a great thing to know what you do not want, I see nothing wrong with not wanting kids. I love mine but they do change your life forever.

No, it is not selfish. Rather, it is a sign of maturity that you and your wife will not succumb to societal pressures to procreate when it is not of interest to you.

Long gone are the days when we needed kids around to be free labor on the farm.

Be fortunate that you both agree on the issue and have found each other. Enjoy your life together and breathe a sigh of relief every time you see a young couple hauling around 3 kids and bags under their eyes.

there is nothing selfish about not wanting children. I think it is wrong to have children and then not care for them. So many kids today are learning about the world without the guidance of strong parental role models.

There's nothing wrong with not wanting kids! I don't plan on having any either. There is some sort of societal belief that a life without kids is unfulfilling....I couldn't disagree more. Child rearing isn't for everybody!

I would like to know the answer to this myself. My twice divorced nephew made this comment and I had to bite my tongue to keep from saying, "...and it's better to have kids from broken homes??" I satisfied myself by asking why he thought it was selfish. He didn't have an answer that didn't make himself sound kind of foolish.

Do BOTH of you not want kids? There's nothing wrong with that. But if one of you does want kids, then there will be problems.

There is no harm in having no kids. Every decision you take in life has +ve and -ve sides.
If you have taken this decision after wearing all pros and cons, then its your decision. No one should challenge this..
